Foreign Policy and International Affairs

Our Foreign Policy is rooted on the belief that relationships between countries should be based on mutually beneficial principles.  There should be a solid understanding, among both parties, that their interaction is to be of a purely egalitarian nature.  DRC will engage the international community to promote an agenda that seeks peace, is founded on democratic principles, respect of territorial integrity and national sovereignty.  We believe that global security is dependent upon the coordinated execution of policies which are; guided by a strong sense of international accountability, and strongly supported international law enforcement regimes.

DRC’s historical experience in the global arena has informed UREC foreign policy so that it advocates tough punitive mechanisms that deter illegal exploitation of natural resources, degradation of human dignity, and the violation of international laws and agreements.  UREC shall enact policies that aim to fully integrate DRC markets and industries into the competitive global market place.  UREC foreign policy will look to promote the emergence of an economically credible DRC, by working together with transnational corporations whose operations are critical to the effective functioning of the international financial system.

UREC will pursue national strategic interests in accordance with the above mentioned egalitarian principles and commitment to mutually advantageous transactional outcomes.  UREC wants to serve as the example of democratic governance in Africa.  We believe that an accountable and democratic government in Kinshasa is critical to the development of the African continent.  We will align ourselves with other nations similarly committed to the promotion of peace, equitable trade policies and security of foreign assets.  UREC foreign policy will vigorously oppose kleptocratic governance and the misuse of power.  We, in the DRC, are well acquainted with the tragic results that can occur when incompetent and corrupt leaders are provided diplomatic and financial assistance.

We have witnessed this year a whole people turn the key to unlock the marvels of what humanity has best in its spirit by electing, for the first time in history, an African American to the highest seat of power in the land.  The election of Barack Obama as the President of the Unites States is a call to the human conscience, a call that goes well beyond the cold walls of our current history as humans. The elation across the globe reflects a state of mind, and renewed spirit that believes that nothing is impossible when people from a nation get together, and coalesce their efforts around a common vision, for the attainment of a common goal.  Leadership, compassion and competence of highly educated, well trained and skilled candidate, and the windfall that propelled this nation forward have made this election a stunning success.  Why can a nation stare into the future with hope, while so many nations continue to be decadent with self-serving leaders?  We believe that accountability, and stringent criteria based on qualifications and the existing of a clear professional track record should be developed and enforced in African politics, especially when it comes to electing a President and the members of Parliament.  This change in our global mentality and political culture is a prerequisite for a real global partnership since one cannot have a partner who is not fit for a job such as that of leading a nation, sit side-by-side with true leaders.  Continuing the business as usual will erode national security interests of the US, EU and key countries such as DRC.
