Research and Development
UREC believes in the power of scientific and technological innovations as a catalyst for societal transformation, development and sustainability. DRC has tremendous R&D potentials owing to the existence of a large pool of technocrats, scholars and scientists abroad. Much has still to be done to uncover the opportunities that lie at the heart of its forests, and under its soil in terms of untapped resources for drug discovery and development, discovery of new minerals and their use thereof. In the social arena, the conflicts and extreme acts of violence provides the world community with a great opportunity to study personal and community behavior, and the drivers and triggers of violence in order to develop conflict prevention and resolution strategies that are much needed for Africa and other unstable regions worldwide.
UREC will encourage the return of qualified Congolese talents from the diaspora to DRC by offering them a work environment that provides reasonable incentives, including compensation and state-of-the art facilities where ground breaking research will be conducted.
UREC will foster the development of national intellectual property by facilitating R&D as well as the refinement of policies and enactment of legislation on intellectual property in DRC.
DRC lies at the heart of the Equator and its biodiversity makes it an important determinant of climate change in the world. UREC will put a special emphasis on earth science R&D and climatology and will promote the building of state-of-the art observatories and climate change tracking research centers.
Additionally,UREC will promote the establishment of a national center for research on infectious diseases and cancers in order to study further the predictors of emerging infections, epidemics, and common malignancies. Important investment will be made in the area of drug infectious diseases and cancer control.
